Start saving early.

  • Time is essential for the growth of interest on your money. Put a percentage of your monthly budget in a fund for education only.
  • Research Texas 529 Plans and the Texas Tuition Promise Fund for tax savings and payment plan options.

by Cristina Lugo Martin, Business Services Officer and Vice President of BB&T

A college education can open many doors in life and help make your dream a reality! Plan ahead to make sure your dream does not become a financial burden. Here are a few tips that could help:

Scholarship Websites:

  •  Fastweb - Scholarships, Internships, Colleges and More:     www.fastweb.com
  • Each year, more than $2.7 billion in federal student aid goes unclaimed. You can apply to get money for college beginning October 1, 2017 .
Submit your form at bit.ly/ppFAFSA #FormYourFuture
  •  College Board - College success and opportunity:     www.collegeboard.com
  • Hispanic Scholarship Fund:     http://hsf.net

Important Note:
Make sure to visit your University to seek additional scholarships.

Contact Karla Leon: karla.leon@conmimadre.org for more information on particular scholarships.

Interested in a College Tour?

  • Consider a campus tour to some of your favorite schools and do some fact finding to
help you make your college choice easier.
  • Start with an online visit to a school’s website to find out how to schedule your campus tour.
  • To make your visit an easier one, plan several weeks ahead and be sure to ask for a bilingual
tour guide and other accommodations you might need, when you schedule your visit.
